Composting Made Easy with a Compost Bin

April 29th, 2012

Making compost is not throwing all kinds of different trash into one container and hoping that rich compost soil results. Getting the right mixture browns and greens or carpets and nitrogens as they are called is the key to helping produce rich compost material. Also, having the proper container or bin that speeds up the composting process is also crucial and necessary for most “neighborhoods”.

One such container or bin that is very popular is called the Compost Wizard. the Compost Wizard is a great starter bin for people who want to give their hand at composting using a container. The advantage of using the compost Wizard is the fact that it accelerates composting by heating up your decomposing matter. You can also speed up the process by aerating or turning the materials in the Compost Wizard several times a week.

The Compost Wizard looks aesthetically pleasing and will not get you in trouble with the neighborhood covenants! This compost bin is also very cost effective and great at keeping out unwanted pests. If you want to try your hand at composting with the container, this did will do the trick.

Looking for a Good Quality Trimmer?

April 29th, 2012

There are tons of options nowadays when it comes to buying the right string trimmer. In fact, while searching online, I found some pretty cool tips that will assist you in picking the right one for your particular needs.

Depending on the size of your lot and the type of yard you have, will be the overall deciding factor on what type of weed trimmer you ultimately buy. For example, if you have a large yard and heavy over growth and tall weeds, then you will most likely need to buy a gas powered unit. The reason of that is because the gas powered are more powerful and can handle the heavier workload. On the other hand, if you have a small or medium size lot like I do, then an electric or cordless style will be sufficient.

Sine my own weed eater finally died after 6 years of abusing it, I have decided that I will go with a cordless style. After researching the various online stores and reading tons of customer reviews, I have decided on getting the Black and Decker Grass Hog. That’s because its light weight, includes 2 batteries and comes with a 2 year warranty. If I have any problems, I can simply send it back for a new one. Besides, the Black and Decker brand is well known and respected for garden tools and equipment.

The Cost of Caring for a Lawn Makes Xeriscaping Look Pretty Attractive

April 29th, 2012

I love my garden – I even one of those EZ up gazebos I use for an adhoc office on sunnier days. However, taking care of a lawn is not a cheap endeavor. Particularly if one lives in an area where water is at a premium. When we had kids in the house the lawn was a popular hangout spot but now it seems like the only time anyone spends on it is to take care of it. On the obvious side you have chores like cutting it and edging it, but that’s not all. Most likely you will need to thatch and aerate it every couple years especially if you live where the soil isn’t so great, in which case you will need to fertilize as well. What I want to do if I can get a little time and money is yank it all out and go with something based more on stones and wood-chips, maybe some mini palms or other low water plants that can be watered with a drip system. It will be so nice to not have to dig a hole every time something goes wrong with a joint in my irrigation system. A small drip system would use a fraction of what is used currently. Also the whole thing can go for months without maintenance.
